Over the past 12 months, we've had several of these cameras set up on trails in rugged Sika country, and they have performed exceptionally. As you'll see from the photos below, this camera delivers crisp,
high-resolution images both day and night, capturing every detail with impressive clarity.
For the past 12 years, I’ve actively used trail
cameras in the bush where I love to hunt. While I have the option to hunt open country or farm edges, I prefer the dense bush, where I feel most at home.
Don’t get me wrong, I still hunt open country occasionally, but more often than not, you’ll find me stalking the native and manuka edges in my socks, moving stealthily in search of that big Sika stag during the hard antler season. Most of the time, I hunt solo, relying on my instincts and the valuable data I gather from my trail cameras.
Over a full 12-month cycle, the insights these cameras provide are invaluable, helping me understand deer movements, population numbers, stag quality, and overall condition. By early March, I’m scouting my hunting areas, checking for fresh sign and rubs on trees, analyzing which stags have moved into my spots. As the roar approaches, I swap my big camera for my rifle, but my trail cameras remain my silent scouts, feeding me crucial information for both the roar and into the winter season. The more time I spend in the bush pre-roar, the sharper I feel when the season kicks into full swing.
When it comes to ease of use, the UOVision Select 30 is a standout. It's quick to set up, well-built, and affordably priced, making it a fantastic choice for both trail monitoring and security purposes. It can also be securely locked to a tree with a simple wire and lock, ensuring it stays in place no matter where you position it.
One of its biggest advantages is its exceptional battery life. While we check our cameras regularly, they can run for up to six months on a single set of batteries—offering long-lasting performance with minimal maintenance.
The trail camera Kiwi hunters, landowners and anyone keeping watch on the land trust to scout animals, monitor wildlife, and keep watch on the land — day and night, rain or shine.
Whether you're glassing roar country in the Kaimanawas, tracking deer movement on a Hawke's Bay block, keeping tabs on pest activity, or simply wanting to know what's moving through your back paddock at 3am — the UOVision Select 30 delivers. 30MP stills, true 4K video, and invisible no-glow LEDs that won't educate the animals you're watching.
New Zealand bush is wet, dense, and hard on gear. The Select 30's IP66 weatherproof rating handles a Fiordland downpour or a frosty Central Plateau morning without missing a beat. The 0.2-second trigger is fast enough to catch a red stag moving through a gap in the scrub — not just his backside disappearing into the manuka. No-glow LEDs matter in NZ where deer pressure is high and animals are sharp; a flashing red glow changes their patterns within days. Beyond hunting, these cameras are a genuine tool for wildlife monitoring — tracking native species movement, building a picture of what's living on your land, or documenting pest activity to back up your control work. The battery life means you can leave one on a remote block through the rut, check it in November, and still have charge to spare.
